Shine On: Ghimire Family

/////

These are my friends, Mercie, Vivek and Harper. Last November, they drove out to Las Vegas to do another family session with me (their first shoot can be found here). We always have fun together and this time was no exception. I love all of the movement and laughter in the following images. It contrasts perfectly to the unusual and austere backdrop of the Las Vegas Wash. And most importantly, these photos reminded me that not taking things too seriously always allows our true personalities to shine through.

The Untouchables Hair Design

////

Last month, I had the pleasure of shooting the lovely ladies at The Untouchables Hair Design. They are a modern, Las Vegas-based salon that specializes in Balayage, color correction, Hot Heads Extensions, and smoothing treatments. Last year, they were chosen by Elle Magazine as one of America’s Top 100 Salons. But perhaps even more impressive is the fact the salon is nearly 30 years old — a true achievement in an inconstant city like Las Vegas!

The founder and owner, Mary Gonzales, has created quite the team of on-trend, talented and accommodating stylists. We worked together last year, so I was really excited to shoot them again, especially with a completely different theme. This time we ventured out into the desert; first to the ghost town of Goodsprings, NV, then to the new Seven Magic Mountains art installation and finally to the dry lake bed near Primm/Stateline. So much fun…

Slice of Life

October 2012

Over two years have passed since I took these images. My backlog of photos has reached such epic proportions, I’m not even sure where to begin — but I wanted to post these before I share the latest pictures we shot this fall. It’s astonishing how much these children have changed in such a short amount of time!

In this shoot, my goal was to capture the kids’ budding (tween) personalities, at home, surrounded by their things. At the time, Gwenyth loved Justin Bieber, American Girl dolls and cheer. John was into his phone, sports and maybe not quite as interested in having his photo taken. They’re both really fun, sweet, beautiful kids and looking back, I love how different these are compared to other sessions I’ve had with them. It makes me want to take similar photos of my own kids! Sometimes it’s so hard to notice all the changes that happen right under your nose.

Hello again! Are you surprised to see 3 posts in 2 weeks? Me too! In a desperate attempt to come out of the woodwork, I’m going to start posting all of my non-published work over the past few years. It’s truly depressing (+ overwhelming) that I’ve managed to get so far behind. But nevertheless, I’m determined to make up for lost time. Sometimes you just have to start somewhere, so let’s roll back to fall of 2013, when I photographed my dear friends, the Killian family, out at the El Dorado Dry Lake Bed in Boulder City.

Good Energy

///

It’s not every day that you get to work with two amazing health and fitness professionals. Rachael, a former Radio City Rockette, is now a well-known yoga teacher in Las Vegas. She works and studies with some of the best yoga instructors throughout the country and is an ambassador for Lululemon. As if that were not enough, she’s also an incredible massage therapist! Her beau, John, is a fitness expert and trainer at a well-known Strip property. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with! Their energy was beyond infectious and our time together was filled with loads of laughter.

From Desert to Downtown

//

Alicia flew in from Washington state this spring for some senior portraits. In true 180/360 style, we shot in extremes. First, we hit Downtown Las Vegas with all of its gritty, graffiti-ed glory. Then we drove the opposite direction out of town to shoot in a dry lake bed. Regardless of the environment, she was a natural in front of the camera.
