Las Vegas

Thanks to an ever-changing landscape, Las Vegas can be a tricky city to navigate, even for a local. I’ve lived here long enough to know that people either like it or they don’t. And as someone who has been on both sides of that spectrum, I think I’m a fair representative to prove that there are indeed many fine points to this bizarre wonderland in the desert, when you know where to look. I’m not a fan of cigarette smoke, loud machines, gambling or obnoxious people either. But thankfully, there is more to Vegas than that. Gambling on what’s hip and happening is not a solid bet because it changes every month.

Here are my favorite places and spaces in Sin City:

HIKING/ADVENTURE

Red Rock

Valley of Fire

Mt. Charleston

Corn Creek, NV

SIGHTS

Area 15 and Omega Mart by Meow Wolf – immersive art experience great for the whole family

Neon Museum

Pinball Hall of Fame

Bellagio Conservatory and Fountains

RESTAURANTS

Bavette’s – my favorite steak house. Located at the non-smoking Park MGM.

Bronze Cafe – healthy but amazing food including many vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free options.

Baguette Cafe – delicious French sandwiches, salads, soups and pastries

Settebello Pizza – our favorite Napoletano-style pizza. The best in town, hands down.

Andiamo Italian Steakhouse – old school Vegas meets New York.

Carson Kitchen – modern take on American faves in this downtown Gastro-lounge.

China Poblano – Chinese and Mexican under one roof. I recommend choosing a Belgian ale to go with your food.

Bonito Michoacan – the local’s favorite Mexican.

El Dorado Cantina – Organic Mexican food butted up against a strip club. #onlyinvegas

Esther’s Kitchen – seasonal Italian food in the Arts District.

  1. Good morning, I started going to LV in December 2016 and visit every 4 to 6 weeks. Absinthe is fabulous! Who knew, I at 46 years old, would need a pocket full of quarters? The pinball museum is great! Haven’t had so much fun on .25 in 30 years. There is more to LV other than the Strip. Mob museum and Floyd Lamb Park. Keep adding things, you are spot on.
